Please use the schedule attached to my letter sent on Friday as a guideline for how long students should be working on each subject. Please use the seesaw app if you wish to upload your work and videos. I will be able to provide feedback and interact with each student using this app. If you ever find that you need extra resources or activities to complete, please see some the following…

Activities and Expectations for Monday, March 23
Gym: Watch this YouTube video about Staying Healthy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxnEuj1c0sw
  • Ms. V’s Teacher Talk: Although we are being asked to stay at home, we still need to make sure our bodies are getting enough exercise every day. Hopefully the YouTube video you just watched helped you understand why exercise is so important, especially during a time where we all need our bodies to be as healthy as possible to fight off illnesses.
  •  Follow along with this exercise video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8jI4RnHHf0
  • Ms. V’s Feedback: Great job! How do you feel? Are you warm? Thirsty? Can you feel your heart muscles working? By participating in this video today, you strengthened your heart muscles and all of the muscles in your body. You helped your body become stronger which will help it fight against any illnesses. Make sure you drink lots of water after your workout and continue to stay active throughout your day!

French: Bonjour! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! To start off our first French online lesson, we are going to write about our March break. On a blank sheet of paper, students will write two or three sentences about what they did over the March break and then draw a picture.  They may use a French-English dictionary to guide them (www.wordreference.com)Please do not use Google Translate. You can use the following sentence starters to help complete your sentences.Qu’est-ce que tu as fait pendant les semaines de relâche? What did you do over the March break?
Je suis allé(e)… (I went to…)
J’ai mangé… (I ate…)
J’ai regardé… (I watched…)
J’ai joué…. ( I played…)
J’ai fait… (I did/made…)
J’ai lu…. ( I read….)
J’ai vu…. (I saw…)
Please ensure the following in your writing activity:
  • includes a title (“Mes semaines de relâche”) and name on your work.
  • words are spelled correctly (including proper accents: é, ê, è)
  • your sentences begin with a capital letter and end in a period.
  • your work is neat.
Please see the example here as a guide:

Math: Learning Goals: For students to review representing and adding numbers using a place value mat.
Success Criteria
1. I can recognize place value columns
2. I can put the ones in the accurate frame
3. I can put the tens in the accurate frame

~ Explanation:
Students are being asked to represent numbers on a place value mat. They will be asked to represent a number two different ways by trading a ten. Students will then work on adding two digit numbers together and solving word problems using place value mats.
For example: The number is 26, we need to look at the numbers and identify the 1’s and 10’s column. There are 2 tens and 6 ones and will now represent this number on a place value mat. Please see me link below for video of me explaining the lesson

2.  I can identify words with the l blend
3.  I can independently complete the activities.

~ Explanation:

I encourage children to do this activity independently as we normally do every Monday. Please make sure students are practicing the spelling words daily, as parents will be administrating the spelling test on Friday.

Unit of Inquiry: Learning Goals: For students to learn about Ted Harrison and begin working on their rough draft of a landscape using implied lines, light vs. dark and contrast.
Success Criteria
1. I can discuss information about Ted Harrison and Aboriginal art
2. I can use implied lines, contrast, light and dark colours
3. I can work independently to create my drawing

~Explanation
Students will be learning about the Canadian artist Ted Harrison.
He used implied lines, which are lines that are done by shading and soft lines rather than a definite hard defined line. He also used light vs. dark contrast to create beautiful landscape paintings of regions in North America. Inukshuk’s were also used in a lot of his paintings as they represent a landmark structure for the Inuit and other people of the Arctic Region of North America. Today you are creating a rough copy of your painting, you are drawing your landscape with a cool ground and a warm sky. Please note you are not painting today.
