Happy Magnificent Monday!
Year Ahead Day!
We had such a wonderful day together in Grade 1.
Story Connection: Today we read the Gruffalo together as class! Then we tried to retell the story as class. We talked about the main characters, the setting, the problem of the story and the resolution. Then students were able to draw their own picture of a Gruffalo!
Inquiry into Language: Students were introduced to cursive writing today! We went through the alphabet together as a class on the board. Then we practiced writing our classmates names on a piece of paper! The students found the cursive letters very unusual and funny! Next, students were given a cursive package with a variety of sentences to trace.
Math: This was our favourite activity today by far! Students were given a handful of skittles. They first had to sort the different skittles into the appropriate circles. Then students had to count the skittles and record the amount using tallies and numbers. Then students had to put their information they gathered into a bar graph. Students had to answer a variety of questions about their bar graph such as ‘what colour did you have the most of? And ‘what colour of skittles was the least amount’ etc.
Unit of Inquiry: Today I introduced the term organization to the children. We talked about why it is important to keep things organized and how we can organize different things. We think it’s a good idea to stay organized so it is easy to find things and so things do not get lost. Students were given grocery flyers and they had to cut out different food items and organize their fridge
We had such a great day!
Have a wonderful evening,
Love, Miss Gandy
