Kappa Casual Day- just a friendly reminder that there is a casual day on Thursday for all Kappa students. They have won this day for bringing in the most clothing for the clothing drive.

Mr. Foster’s Farmers Market and Ms. Gandy’s Groceries
As part of our summative assessment the grade one classes have decided to open a market to complement our organization unit. The market will include fruits, vegetables, drinks and other healthy snacks. It will be held in rooms 12 and 18. The market will take place all day Thursday, January 23^rd and Friday, January 24^th. All profits made will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. ** More information will be sent home next week!

Special of the month: Chicken Stir Fry, which is available every Friday.

Town Hall/ Wine and Cheese Social- We look forward to seeing you at the SJA Town Hall/Social on January 24 from 7 to 9 pm. Just a note to say there will be no pictures of work/kids on my blog today as I forgot my phone on my kitchen table this morning! So sorry!

Inquiry into Language: Today students were introduced to their new novel study ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. We made a prediction about what we think the book is going to be about based on the cover and title. Then we read Chapters 1,2 and 3 and answered comprehension questions. We reviewed at the end important information such as the setting, characters we were introduced to and made predictions for Chapter 4.

Math: Today students reviewed for their upcoming addition and subtraction test. They were asked to solve different subtraction questions (both with and without borrowing) using their whiteboards. Then students independently completed a subtraction worksheet.

Unit of Inquiry: Today students created their own version of a grocery store. They used a template to create and organize a list of different meat, drinks, fruits and vegetables. The students drew a few pictures to add to their list. Tomorrow students will add to their list by including

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
