As part of our summative assessment the grade one classes have decided to open a market to complement our organization unit. The market will include fruits, vegetables, drinks and other healthy snacks. It will be held in rooms 12 and 18. The market will take place all day Thursday, January 23^rd and Friday, January 24^th. All profits made will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. ** More information will be sent home next week!

Special of the month: Chicken Stir Fry, which is available every Friday.

All payments are to be made through QuickBooks by February 6th.

Reading Buddies: Today we had a visit from our reading buddies in Ms. Foti’s class. They read us a passage and we had to retell what happened to our reading buddies. Then they asked us different comprehension questions. Once we finished we were able to grab a book and take turns reading the book.

Math: Today students reviewed for their upcoming addition and subtraction test. They were asked to solve different addition questions (both with and without carrying) using their whiteboards. Then students independently completed an addition worksheet.

Inquiry into Language: Today students learned their new words of the week. Students used their spelling words to complete various tasks within their spelling workout book.

Unit of Inquiry: Today students shared what they organized at home over the weekend. They were asked to tell the class what they organized, how they organized it and the why it is important this item stays organized.

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
