Happy Terrific Thursday!
Daily 5:  Today we did a growth mindset activity. We went over what the term growth mindset means. We learned that a growth mindset is a positive way of thinking and a belief that we learn through practice. We discussed that mistakes help us learn and that we always need try out best! Students were given discussion cards where they discussed statements and questions about learning together as a table. Then students were given growth and fixed mindset sentences and sorted them into the appropriate columns. We shared how we can change some fixed sentences to growth sentences. For example- I can’t do this became I can’t do this yet. It was great to see the teamwork during this activity. It was a terrific way to start of the New Year!

Gym: Please see Ms. V’s blog at https://msvphysed.blogspot.com

Math: Today students reviewed subtraction problems with and without borrowing. We did examples together on the white boards and then students independently completed questions.
French: Please see Mlle. Jessica’s blog at http://mllehousja.blogspot.com

Inquiry into Language: Today we gave students time to work on their book re-tell presentation. Students worked on either completing their opening sentence, beginning, middle, end or conclusion section. If students had finished writing out the whole retell I was able to read through them some of them and students began practicing with a friend. We discussed that when we present our book retell we are looking for actions/gestures, expression, pacing and projection of voice.

Agenda:
1. Read 15 minutes
2. ** Work on book retell- thank you to everyone who worked over this during the break. I have had a look at a few of them and they sound amazing! We will continue to work on the book retell so please make sure every night it is put back inside their agenda.
3. Re-registration package
4. Scholastic Order due January 17th

Unit of Inquiry: Today students used a graphic organizer to organize their reasons for their opinion on whether there should be more or less homework.

Have a wonderful evening,

Love, Miss Gandy
