Happy Wonderful Wednesday!
Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a wonderful and restful Christmas break. I am so happy to be back as I missed the kids very much
Today we celebrated Riaan’s birthday, which was on January 1st. Happy Birthday Riaan!!
Inquiry into Language: Today students were given a read (ketchup) piece of construction paper or a yellow (mustard) piece of construction paper. Students were asked to make a ketchup and mustard pair, once they paired up they shared one exciting thing they did over the break. Then students moved and paired up with someone else in the class. This was a great way to talk to people we don’t often talk to as well share what we did during the break.
Then students wrote a journal about what they did over the Christmas break. They were asked to recall the components of journal writing such as date, title, opening sentence, sentence starters and closing sentences. Students were pushed to try to stretch their sentences by including as much detail in their sentences.
Math: Today students reviewed addition problems with and without carrying. We did a few examples together on the board going over the steps involved in double digit addition. Then students independently completed questions.
Music: Please see Mrs. McMillan’s blog at http://mrsmcmillanmusic.blogspot.com
Agenda:
1. Read 15 minutes
2. ** Work on book retell- thank you to everyone who worked over this during the break. I have had a look at a few of them and they sound amazing! We will continue to work on the book retell so please make sure every night it is put back inside their agenda.
3. Bring back re-registration package
Unit of Inquiry: Today students were introduced to opinion writing. First, we went over what the word opinion means. Then the students were asked whether they think students should have more or less homework. The ones who voted for less homework went to the back of the room and the students who voted for more went to the front of the classroom. Then we shared our reasons for our opinion. We discussed what an opinion-writing piece is and how we need to organize our writing using a graphic organizer. They will work on their graphic organizer with different reasons for their opinion tomorrow.
Have a wonderful evening,
Love, Miss Gandy
