Inquiry into Language: Today students wrote their Ontario Writing Assessment. Our next writing strand is journal writing. For the next few months’ children will be learning the components/criteria of a journal and how to effectively write one.
Math: Today students were introduced to carrying when we add double-digit numbers. We reviewed that we always start in the one’s column and then move the tens column. We learned the appropriate steps and strategies to complete carrying. For example: 29 +13.
** We first add 9 + 3= 12. We look at the number 12. The two is in the ones column so we put it underneath. 29

The one is in the tens column so we need to carry that number over to that column. Then we add that column. 2+1+1= 4. Our answer is 42

Then students worked in their workout books adding two-digit numbers using their own strategies.
Book Fair: today we visited the book fair! We walked around with our reading buddies and looked at all the different books and items Ms. Hayward had ordered. Children filled in their wish list of different things they would like and placed it inside their agenda. Please note we will be going to the book fair throughout the week so please send in money labelled book fair if they wish to purchase something. Parents are able to come and view the book fair with their children from 2:30- 6:00!

Unit of Inquiry: Today we were paleontologists! We were able to dig for fossils and bones and see what we uncovered! It was very messy but so worth it!
