Happy Rainy Wednesday!

Christmas Concert Practice: Today we continued to practice our Christmas performance. We went over spacing, actions and showing our emotions by smiling and enjoying ourselves.

Math: Today students reviewed the steps involved in double-digit addition with carrying. We did a few examples on the board together as a class. Next students completed double-digit word problems. We reviewed that to solve word problems it is important to look for key words inside the questions such as more, together, altogether etc.

Book Fair: Today we had another visit to the book fair where students were able to purchase different books or items. Please note the book fair is running throughout the week and students can come tonight from 2:30- 6:00 with their parents.

Inquiry into Language: Today students were introduced to the components of journal writing. We went over that a journal always starts with an opening sentence, which is something to introduce what you are going to be writing about and catches the reader’s attention. Next, we need to include different sentence starters such as first, then, next, after, also and lastly. We finish the journal with a concluding sentence, this is something that ends the journal and sums up what you have been writing about. We also went over the importance of accurate sentence structure and using detailed sentences. Then we wrote a journal together as class.

Unit of Inquiry: Today we started to watch 'The Good Dinosaur' as an ending to our Dinosaur Unit.

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
