Mother’s Day Art:This morning we worked on our Mother’s Day gifts! I will not spoil the surprise, as the children are very excited to show you. I hope everyone has a wonderful and special Mother’s Day! We are so grateful and thankful for everything you do for us!

Math:Today students had to choose a strategy to find three figures with a total number of 13 sides and 12 vertices.

Inquiry into Language:Today we read Chapter 2 and 3 of our novel study ‘Afternoon on the Amazon’. Then children answered comprehension questions about what they read. This novel study children will be answering the questions on their own to prepare themselves for grade 2. We will brainstorm answers together and children will independently write out their answers.

Students wrote their weekly spelling test! Please sign and return them on Monday!

Track and field May 23^rd

Unit of Inquiry:Today students learned about different animals and what habitat they live in. We watched a video that discussed how living things like plants, animals and humans need a habitat and access to water, food, sunshine etc. We learned that animals adapt to their environment and habitat. For example, a polar bear has a layer of blubber that keeps them warm in the Arctic. We read through booklet and coloured the pictures!

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
