Tuesday, April 9 – Grade 4-8 Spelling Bee

Autism Awareness Day is tomorrow, April 2^nd. For $2, students will be able to wear a blue shirt (only a blue shirt please) and casual pants to show their support. Students not wanting to participate are required to wear their full school uniform.

Spelling Bee packages and lists were sent home. Please use the list to study for the in-class competition. The Grade 1 in-class Spelling Bee will take place on Thursday, April 4th.

Arts Night lyrics have been placed inside the children agenda. Please continue to practice at home!

Today was the start of our spring fundraiser events! Tomorrow is autism awareness day, for $2.00 your child can come to school wearing a blue shirt to help raise money for Oakwood!

Math:Today students reviewed subtraction using the column method and place value mats. Students also created their own subtraction sentences. Our math test has been moved to next Tuesday to allow more time to review in class and at home.

Reading Buddies: Today we had a visit from our reading buddies! We also practiced for our spelling bee today in class.

Inquiry into Language:Today students learned their weekly spelling words and worked in the spelling workout book.

Unit of Inquiry:Today students finished their dot panting.

At the end of the day we had our first pie a teacher in the face! The lucky student got to pie Ms. Cass in the face... and boy did she LOVE IT!!!

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
