Re-registrations packages have been sent home. All completed forms are due back no later than February 11^th, 2019, in order to save your spots.

Mr. Foster’s Farmers Market and Ms. Gandy’s Groceries

As part of our summative assessment the grade one classes have decided to open a market to complement our organization unit. The market will include fruits, vegetables, drinks and other healthy snacks. It will be held in rooms 25, 28 and 29. The market will take place all day Thursday, January. 24^th and Friday, January. 25^th. All profits made will be donated to the Sick Kid’s Hospital.

Math: Today we continued to review addition and subtracting, adding and subtracting double digits numbers and word problems. They also practiced adding 3 numbers together and used different strategies to get the answer. Students were challenged with two part questions as well.

Daily 5: Miss Gandy listened to readers in one group, another group word on cursive writing and the last group worked on their writing. They had to read a book a write out the main parts from the beginning, middle and end.

Inquiry into Language:Today students wrote their 2019 goals for this year! We reviewed what a goal is and how we can have both short and long term goals.

Unit of Inquiry:Today students picked what group they wanted to be in for the market. We brainstormed different items we could bring in for each category. On Monday, children will be wiritng a grocery list for their group and pick the different items they want to bring in. After, we made posters to advertise our upcoming market! We made sure to include important parts such as title, location, time and date.

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
