World Kindness Day is taking place on Tuesday, November 13th. Students are asked to give a handprint for every act of kindness they perform. For $2.00, students can have an extra casual day.

Math:Today in math children learnt how long a minute is. We recorded a variety of different activities that we thought would take one minute and then measured to see if we were correct. We also measured the number of repetitions that it would take to write our whole name, draw a house, and draw a 5-train snap cube in one minute. Lastly we decided what unit of time would be best to measure an event. For example: the school day, would it be measured in minutes, hours, seconds or days?

Inquiry into Language: Today we read Chapter 7 and 8 of our novel study ‘Dinosaurs Before Dark’. After we retold the chapters in sequence and predicted what we think will happen in the next chapter. Children then answered comprehension questions about the text they just read.

PD day November 9^th

Unit of Inquiry:Children wrote their good copy to ‘If I was a dinosaur I would be a________ osaurus. For their good copy I asked the children to review their rough copy and add some more adjectives to describe their dinosaur. We reviewed what an adjective is and how we use them.

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
