Day 30

Happy Thursday!

Again here are just a few reminders to keep in mind!

- Hot lunch orders for the month of November are due by October 26^th

- ROM trip October 26^th- please bring a packed disposable lunch

- Form and money for the trip are due tomorrow

- Now that the cold weather is coming please ensure children are dressed with the appropriate clothing and have outdoor shoes.

Music:Next we had music with Mr. Flower. Please see his blog at http://flowermusicsja.blogspot.com

Math: Students recalled their counting patterns by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s to identify the different patterns. Some of us used a hundred charts and highlighted numbers going up in different patterns to help us.

We did some examples as a class and then children worked in their workbooks. We had to say what the pattern was counting by and also fill in missing numbers in the pattern.

After gym we had our daily mediation for 5- minutes!

Inquiry into Language: Today we read Chapter 2 and 3 of our novel study as a class. Children then answered questions about the chapters.

Unit of Inquiry: Today students learnt what different dinosaurs ate. We looked at the words carnivore, omnivore and herbivore and sang a song to understand what different dinosaurs ate back in the day.

Then children were giving dinosaur information cards that gave information about the dinosaur such as what it looked like, where it lived and what it ate. Then the students needed to sort them into the either carnivore, herbivore or omnivore sections.

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
