Day 29

Happy Wednesday!

Just a few important dates to keep in mind
- Hot lunch orders for the month of November are due by October 26
- ROM trip October 26 - please bring a packed disposable lunch
- Form and money are due by October 19 for the trip

French: We started the day with Mlle Jessica. Please see her blog at http://mllehousja.blogspot.com

Math: Students learnt all about even and odd numbers. To start they were shown Even Steven and Odd Todd. For Even Steven everyone has a partner but for Odd Todd not everyone has a partner so there is an odd number out. I taught the children that to determine weather a double-digit number is even or odd you need to look in the ones place value. For example 93- the number 3 is an odd number so it makes the whole number 93 odd.

We did some examples as a class and then the children worked in their workbooks.

After children completed their work we got into partners and practiced our even and odd numbering. One partner was in charge of picking a number and writing it on the whiteboard to show the other person. Then the partner needed to say whether the number was even or odd.

Daily 5:Children recorded how many school days we have had so far in our ten frames. After they had to record and predict the weather.

Before we went to lunch we went over another lesson on growth mindset. We reviewed what it meant and how we can retrain our brain to stay positive. As a class we talked about a mistake that we had made recently and thought about how it had helped us learn and grow. We also talked about the importance of never giving up!

Gym: Please see Ms. Yustin’s blog at https://sjaayustin.blogspot.com

After gym we had our daily mediation for 5- minutes!

Inquiry into Language: Today students learnt the definition of a noun. We went over what a noun was and played a game where children had to work together in their groups and write as many nouns such as places, things and names. We worked so hard as a group!

Next we worked at identifying the different nouns in a sentence and determined if it was a person, place or thing.

Agenda:
Spelling sentences due Friday
Spelling test Friday
Read 15 minutes
Trip form/ money due October 19th
Picture day October 25th
Bake Sale October 30th
2 pages of cursive

Unit of Inquiry:  Today we discussed the different physical features of a dinosaur. We sat in a circle and got to look at all the different dinosaur toys and what they looked liked. We noticed that some had long/short tails, wings, small/big head, teeth and claws. After children created their own dinosaur based on the different features we reviewed.

Thank you to my teacher helper Farah, you were such a great help!

Have a wonderful evening,
Miss Gandy J
