Day 28

Happy Tuesday!

Music: Next we had an exciting music lesson with Mr. Flower. Please see his blog at http://flowermusicsja.blogspot.com

Math:Today students reviewed how to use a 100 chart and find patterns in the chart. Students completed work in the math book finding the patterns by looking at the ending and beginning of numbers. They recognized numbers in the 2’s, 5’s and 10’s families that they used as a pattern as well.

After we finished working in our math books we practiced counting in our 2’s and 3’s. The children did all of the counting on their own with no help!! Have a look below at how confident they are getting.

After gym we had our daily mediation for 5- minutes!

Inquiry into Language: Today we were introduced to our first novel study ‘ Dinosaurs before Dark’ to go with our new unit of inquiry. As a class we sat in a circle and discussed the title and author, we thought what the book could be about by looking at the cover. We were only allowed to talk if we had the talking cone, so to share our ideas we passed around the cone.

Then we read the first chapter of the book and made a prediction about what would happen in the next chapter. We went over what the word prediction means.

After we finished the first chapter we answered some questions about the chapter and drew a picture of the cover and characters Jack and Annie.

Unit of Inquiry: Today children reflected on their knowledge of relationships, rules and responsibilities. Students picked 3 pieces of their work from this unit and put it in their IB unit binders.

Thank you to my teacher helper Arya, you were such a great help! We will read a story tomorrow as it was such as crazy afternoon we ran out of time.

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
