Day 27

Math:Today we started our math lesson by reviewing our counting strategies! We counted in our 5’s, 10’s and 3’s. After we worked in our workbooks grouping objects into 10.

First we had to group all the ants in tens then we had to determine how many groups of ten we had and how many left over. For example 4 groups of 10 and 5 left over. All together we had 45 ants. We brainstormed why it might be easier to count the ants in groups of ten compared to counting every single ant.

To finish the math lesson we did quick mental math. Children were partnered up and practiced answering the doubles flashcards as fast as they could.

Library:Next we took a visit to the library to see Ms. Hayward. We read some books and signed some out to read at home.

After gym we had our daily mediation for 5- minutes!

Inquiry into Language: Today we wrote down our new spelling words (please find them in the front of the their agenda). We then worked in our spelling workbooks spelling words that begin and end with v,z,y, and qu.

Unit of Inquiry: Students were introduced to our new unit of inquiry. As a class we thought about what we know about dinosaurs and what we want to learn about dinosaurs by creating a KWL grid. We wrote our ideas down on sticky notes and stuck them on our grid. At the end of our unit we will fill in all that we have learned.

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
