Day 21
Math:In math we were learning how to create addition and subtraction number sentences. We focused on our fact families, which is a group of numbers that you add and subtract with. When we add and subtract, we use three numbers and we get four answers.
For example: 10+2= 12, 2+10= 12 and 12-10=2 and 12-2= 10.
We looked at different tricks we can use for adding and subtracting using our fact families!
To finish our math lesson we practiced counting in 2’s, 3’s and 5’s. Continue practicing at home because I am seeing a great improvement already
Library:Next we had library where Ms. Hayward read us a Thanksgiving story and we got to sign out a book! Please make sure they are returned when they are finished reading it.
After gym we did our 5-minute daily mediation. We thought about how we are feeling? What is making us feel either sad or happy? What can we change about today to make it better?
Inquiry into Language:We reviewed our different sentence starters we went over yesterday! Children recalled sentence starters such as First, After, Then, Next and Finally. We looked at where these sentence starters should go in our journal writing.
Then we tried to remember what we did this past weekend; some children were unable to remember so they wrote their journal about what they did last night. In the journal they were required to include a beginning, middle and end. The events that happened on the weekend or last night had to be in order.
Many interesting journals using a variety of sentence starters!
Agenda:
International day tomorrow (parent visit 2:30-3:15)
Spelling test tomorrow
Spelling sentences due tomorrow
Spanish food for tomorrow
PD Day Friday and Thanksgiving Monday
WEAR YELLOW AND RED TOMORROW
Unit of Inquiry: In the children’s agenda bag will be the summative expectation for our first unit. Please take a look at the requirements for this project! They are to use what they have learnt in our unit about rules, relationships and responsibilities. We are asking this to be a child project with little assistance from the parents PLEASE!
I discussed with the students that they are being asked to create a game with their own set of rules and name. We brainstormed different games such as trivia, tag or Uno. We can use the idea of Uno but we need to come up with our own set of rules.
Tomorrow children will have a brief chance to brainstorm and think about a game they would like to create.
After we finished our discussion children decorated our classroom with Spanish art and listened to music!
Today my teacher helper was Nimrata, thank you for being such as great help J
Have a wonderful evening and look forward to seeing some parents tomorrow at International Day
