Day 19

Happy rainy and cold Monday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend

We started this morning with our awards assembly. Congratulations to Nimrata who has won the Inquirer award for this month. Nimrata is full of questions, always wondering why we do certain things and curious about how the world works around her. For this reason she has been awarded this award.
After the award ceremony we had a house game! Way to go to Omar who brought it home for the Kappa house
FrenchNext we had our French lesson with Mlle Jessica. Please see her blog at http://mllehousja.blogspot.com

Math:Today children were introduced to number sentences. Before we began our lesson we went over what the + symbol and – symbol meant. Then we worked as a class answering different number sentence questions in our workbooks. For example; there were 5 frogs swimming in the pool, 2 decided to jump out. Children recognized that frogs were leaving so that meant we needed to take away. The question would become 5-2= 3. After we completed our workbook students had a chance to make a number sentence of their own.

Reading Buddies: Today we met our reading buddies for the year. Ms.Foti’s Grade 3 class read books to us, we listened and answered questions when they were finished. Some of us even got the chance to read to our buddies.

Inquiry into Language:Students wrote out the words of the week. We are focusing on words that begin and end with n, g and d. Students completed questions in their workbook. After completing children did a page in their cursive book. Just a reminder that the spelling test will be on Thursday this week.

Agenda:
International day October 4th(parent visit 2:30-3:15)
Spelling test Thursday
Spelling sentences due Thursday
Spanish food for Thursday
Read 15 minutes

Unit of Inquiry: Today we drew and labeled a portrait of our family. Children had to brainstorm all the members of their immediate family. We went over what the term ‘immediate’ meant and children understood it was family members that you see everyday and is close to you.

* We listened to Spanish music to get our creativity flowing!

INTERNATIONAL DAY
**I am asking all parents to either buy/make some Spanish food. Even a bag of Tostitos and salsa will be enough for food for our International Day. I will be making a nacho dip or Paella for that day! When you are buying/making food please make sure it is peanut free. Thank you in advance.
Children are also encouraged to dress up in Spanish colours or even dress up in certain culture dress that they would wear in Spain!

Today my teacher helper was Sianna, thank you for being such as great help J
