Day 6

Happy Wednesday J

We started our morning with French with Mlle Jessica. Please see her blog at http://mllehousja.blogspot.com

Math:Today in math children shared what they have learned so far in our patterning unit. I then gave children a specific number of squares and triangles. I had them work in their tables to create a pattern only using the amount of shapes given. We discussed that we can’t just put all the shapes together in a row and say we are finished because it needs to repeat. Children recognized that patterns repeat. We went through different ways to make the pattern and eventually found our pattern! Everyone worked extremely hard. We spent some extra time on this activity because it was a little challenging for us

Spelling Sentences due Friday
Spelling Test Friday

Inquiry into Language:Today we focused on sentence structure. As a class we talked about different sentences and how a sentence should be structured. We knew that a sentence always begins with a capital letter and ends with a period. We said that if there is a sentence that is really exciting and sometimes said loudly we add an exclamation mark. Then if a sentence is asking us something it needs to have a question mark. Children came up with their own sentences and shared them as a class. We wrote a few of them on our chart paper!

UOI:We continued exploring our topic on rules and responsibilities. We finished our final copy of our most important rule poster. These will be hung around the classroom so everyone is reminded of the rule that is most important to them!

After that children got to show their knowledge of rules and following rules by playing a game called ‘What is the Rule’. Students started in a circle with one rule given by me. They were not allowed to drop of the ball. Students passed the ball around and if a student dropped the ball they were out. The child out got to add another rule for students to follow. At the end of the game we had 9 different rules that the children had to follow. When the game was finished we talked about what made this game so hard and why it was important we had these rules!

We are always looking for ways to add responsibility in our classroom. The children will always follow a class jobs chart and rotate throughout the week. Every day my teacher helper will finish the day by reading a story to the class. This book will be at their specific reading level that they are currently at. This will be a time where they get to practice their oral communication and reading skills.

Today our teacher helper was Kaysha !!!

Have a wonderful evening!
