Day 3

Happy Friday!

What a great first couple days of getting to know my wonderful Grade 1 class J

We started the morning with our House Games; it was a very competitive relay race between all houses. Theta won the first game while Zeta took first the second round. Way to go for all students who participated, it was wonderful to see everyone dressed up and full of spirit!

After we calmed down from the excitement we had French will Mlle Jessica. Please see her blog at http://mllehousja.blogspot.com

Math:Today in math we continued discussing our unit on patterning. We discussed what an attribute means and thought of some examples of a class. We looked at shapes, colour and size and how these attributes make a pattern. I then introduced them to a sorting circle and explained how this can be used to help us sort patterns, a lot like when we sort our laundry. We did an example using math manipulates where children were able to see and sort different objects. Example below shows yellow objects in one circle, a pencil in another circle. Now the middle circle must have something from both circles. We came up with putting a yellow pencil crayon there because it is both yellow and is a pencil. We then worked in our workbooks!

Reflection with academic focus:Today we learned what the learner profile inquirer was. Students gave their own examples of what they thought an Inquirer is. We read a story about an inquirer.

We discussed how Curious George was an inquirer in the story. Once were done we wrote our definition of an inquirer and then drew a picture of us being an inquirer. Once we were completed the picture we wrote down how we can be inquirers all the time.

UOI:We continued exploring our topic on rules and responsibilities. I had children think, pair and share different ideas of rules we can make for recess time. Children were paired up to talk to their partner about a rule that they thought of, and then share them back to the class. We came up with some really good rules that will keep us safe when we are out playing!

Language:Students finished the day with their ‘Recipe for a Great School Year’ booklet and discussed the importance of setting goals for the school year. We all want to try our best everyday to improve on things we find hard at the moment

What a busy week this was, brings great excitement for what is to come this year! Have a wonderful weekend and please DO NOT FORGET TO READ!!!!!!!!!
