Day 17

Happy Thursday!

French: We started our morning with Mlle Jessica. Please see her blog at http://mllehousja.blogspot.com

Next we had our Terry Fox run! The children ran/walked around the soccer pitch for the money they raised. It was so nice to see so many children pushing themselves to keep running because Terry never gave up. Here are some photos of the students enjoying the run.

When we came in from the run we had our daily 5-minute mediation to refocus and put our brain into learning mode. The children are really enjoying mediation!

Math:In math today we started going over counting in 2’s and 5’s. Please have your children practicing on a daily basis as I am seeing we need some extra support in this area.
After that children worked in their workbooks filling in the missing numbers on a number line. We used a 100 chart for reference. Children showered me their understanding of numbers in both words and numbers.

If you are looking for some good counting songs, please see below

Inquiry into Language:We reviewed what an exciting sentence is and what needs to be at the beginning and end of that sentence. Then we came up with 1-2 examples of sentences we have learnt so far. We wrote different telling, asking and exciting sentences.

Agenda:
Orange shirt day tomorrow
Spelling test tomorrow
Spelling sentences due tomorrow
Special someone photo- ** if you have not brought in a photo please do because we will be presenting them tomorrow
Research about Spain (due October 1st)
Counting sheet

Unit of Inquiry: We have been learning all about the different qualtities that make a good friend. Since it was the Terry Fox run today I had children tell me how Terry was a good friend. We came up with ‘He never gave up’ ‘He was kind and ran for everyone else’ He was helpful’. It was wonderful that the children were able to make the connection. After our discussion they decorated their paper friend. They needed to write a friend’s name on the front and some qualtites they have at the bottom. We will be hanging them in our classroom to remind us of how we should act towards our friends.

We are continuing to learn about our country Spain for International Day: today we listened to some music and talked about some food that they eat and we even tried to dance the Flamenco.

Our first birthday in class today! Happy Birthday Sianna !!!

Today my teacher helper was Kaysha! Thank you for being such a great help J

Have a wonderful evening,

Miss Gandy
