Day 15
What a rainy and gloomy Tuesday!
FrenchWe started our morning with Mlle Jessica. Please see her blog at http://mllehousja.blogspot.com
Math:In math today we learned how to place and read numbers on ten frames. Students were able to recall what they learnt in SK to tell me what a ten frame was and how we record information in them. We worked in our math workbooks.
After, we sat on the carpet and reviewed our knowledge of counting by 2’s, 3’s, 5’s, 10’s and 25’s. I think we need some extra practice on counting in our 2’s and 3’s.
Daily 5:Today in daily 5 we read the Terry Fox book. As a class we discussed what we know about him and why he is so important to us. We learned all about his life and that he ran around Canada to help raise money for people who were sick like him. I introduced the word ‘qualities’ such as caring and brave and how Terry showed us those different qualities through his actions.
We thought about how we are continuing what Terry wanted to do by running and raising money for our Terry Fox run here at St. Jude’s. After our discussion the children drew a picture of Terry and wrote once sentence about him.
After gym we did our daily 5-minute mediation session
Inquiry into Language:Students worked in their ‘Four Sentence Booklet’ and recognized the difference between asking and telling sentences. They had to match different questions and answers and rewrite them underneath. We reviewed that a telling sentence can be changed to an asking sentence, and practiced a few examples.
Agenda:
Casual Day tomorrow
Gym wear Thursday
Bake Sale tomorrow
Spelling test Friday
Spelling sentences due Friday
Special someone photo- ** this picture needs to be in by Friday as they will be presenting them to the class on that day

Unit of Inquiry: We continued collaborating as tables discussing what it means to be a good friend. We thought of three things and shared them with the class. Then we reviewed the term ‘qualities’ and looked at the different qualities a good friend should have.
We listened to the 'what makes a good friend song' !
After that, I gave children a scenario card. They were told to create a skit on how to be a good friend in that specific scenario. They worked in their groups and practiced their skit. Tomorrow we will present them to the class.
Here is a picture of some of our friends enjoying the Bake Sale today! YUMMM
