Day 1

Happy Wonderful First Wednesday!

We had a very busy and exciting day in Grade 1! It was so nice to see everyone getting to know one another and making new friends. We finished the day with smiles from EVERYONE!

Daily 5:Today we started the day off by getting to know our classmates. We told everyone our names and shared something exciting we did over the summer. After, I read a story called ‘We don’t eat our Classmates’ and talked about the moral of the story. We discussed the importance of being kind to one another and treating everyone the way we would want to be treated.

Math:Our first math unit is sorting and patterning, today students played introductory math games where they had to sort themselves based on youngest to oldest and tallest to smallest.

Inquiry into Language:Today students read, signed and used a thumbprint to indicate they will follow a school pledge.

Agenda: Students brought home their agenda today. Every day they will write out the important dates and homework inside it. Parents are asked to check their agendas nightly and sign off beside my initials.

Unit of Inquiry: Today students were introduced to their first unit of inquiry about rules, responsibilities and relationships. We then created an essential agreement for the class that we will follow throughout the year. It was lovely to see everyone sharing ideas and reasons why they think it is important to have class rules!

After, students started working through a booklet about setting goals for a successful school year!

We finished the day with house games! GO THETA

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.

Central Idea: People often use organization as a system to establish order.
