Happy Fantastic Friday!

Brrrrrr was it ever cold out today! As the cold weather approaches fast please end children with warm jackets, mittens, hats etc.

Congratulations to our all our Knowledgeable winners for the month of October! A big should out to Neel from our class who won my award.

Story Connection: Today students listened to a story called ‘Boo’ by Robert Munch, and answered comprehension questions. Together as a class we went over the main characters, setting, author’s purpose and retold the story in sequence 2 pages at a time. Then we made personal connections to the story thinking bout what they story made us think about and how we could relate to the story.

Math: Today as a class we reviewed telling and saying the time to the quarter hour, half past and quarter past. We practiced showing different times on our mini clocks. Then students reviewed coins and their worth. Students had to determine what items they could buy with a certain amount of money and show their workings out.

Inquiry into Language: Today students wrote their review-spelling test. Please sign and return them on Monday. We also read Chapter 6 of our novel study ‘Dinosaurs Before Dark’. Together as a class we retold what has happened in the previous chapters and made predictions of what we think is going to happen next. Students then answered comprehension questions about we had read! They seem to be loving our book and working through the comprehension questions!

Agenda:

· Read 15 minutes

· Spelling test signed and returned

· Spelling words on blog

· Cursive 3 pages

Unit of Inquiry: We moved to the last time period in the prehistoric age. We looked at different animals and plants that were around during the Cretaceous period. We read about what it was like during this period and students wrote down some information about it. They started colouring a picture and cutting out different dinosaurs that were around during this time.

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.
