Story Connection: Today we learned the new profile of the month’ Knowledgeable’. We learned that to be knowledge it is not about being the smartest person but rather we are knowledgeable when we are learning about the world around us. It is when we discuss many subjects that make up our world today and our world of the past. We read a story called ‘Officer Buckle and Gloria’ and discussed how Officer Buckle was being knowledgeable. Then we brainstormed ways we are knowledgeable in our own lives.
Math: Today in math students learned about sequencing and the passing of time. Students looked at four pictures of a snowman being built. Students had to cut and paste the pictures and put them in order. After, students had to write sentences about the pictures using prompts such as
First___________ (tiny snowball)
Then___________ (bigger snowball)
Next____________ ( stack snowballs)
Then____________ (dress snowman with...)
Inquiry into Language: Today students were introduced to our first novel study of the year ‘Dinosaurs before Dark’. This will link with our new unit of inquiry topic. As a class we discussed the title and author made a prediction of what we think the novel will be about based on the cover. Then students answered comprehension questions about what they had understood from Chapter One.
Agenda:
· Read 15 minutes
· Spelling test Friday
· Spelling sentences due Friday
· Math test signed and returned
· Trip form and money by October 25th
Unit of Inquiry: Today students were introduced to the term herbivore (plant eater), carnivore (meat eater) and omnivore (plant and meat eater). We looked at some of the dinosaurs that ate different foods and their features such as sharp teeth, long necks etc. Then students had to read different fact cards, determine if they were either a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore and sort them accordingly.
Thank you to my teacher helper for the day, Neel!! We ran out of time to have him read so he helped me with handing out the agendas
Have a wonderful evening,
Love,
Miss Gandy
