Remind App

Parent- teacher communication is key to students’ learning; this is why this year I will be using the app ‘Remind’. This allows me to send out class reminders that come directly to the parents phone. It also gives parents the chance to communicate any reminders or questions about classroom information to the teacher.

Example: ‘Johnny is being picked up by his grandmother today, as I am running late for work’

What is Action?

Many people think that action is easy to define. It is something you do right? But action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world? If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. Support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents! I’d love to hear about the action your child takes part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together.

- How animals and plants survived or became extinct in the prehistoric period.

Central Idea: People often use organization as a system to establish order.

- Reasons why people use systems of organization.

- Strategies to organize ourselves at home, school, and in our community.

Unit 4 - Inventions, Innovations and Discovery

Central Idea: Inventions are a response to challenges and opportunities, and impact our daily lives.

Unit 5 - Art Attack

Central Idea: People use art forms to express their culture.

- The art forms of local and international cultures both past and present.

- How art is used for expression and communication.

- How art can demonstrate various cultural experiences (e.g. language, beliefs)

Unit 6 – Animal Kingdom

Central Idea: Diverse habitats support unique communities of living things

- Needs of plants and animals within various ecosystems.

- The characteristics that define habitats around the world.
